Start from the beginning

Chapter Three: The Main Event

After Leonard had set the table, including the salad, checked on dinner in the oven, and that the ice cream was still in the freezer, he reluctantly left to go change into whatever Kendra had picked out for him, leaving Mick to watch over the galley.

Upon entering his room, Leonard spotted the black suit jacket and black dress shirt lying on his bed, along with a note.

How'd I do?

- Kendra

Leonard stripped out of his jacket and sweater and slipped into the dress shirt, which fit him perfectly. He quickly tucked it into the black pants he'd been wearing as Kendra had thankfully not provided him with dress pants. He was willing to wear the dress shirt and jacket, but wearing a full suit would feel too much like running a con, and he didn't want that with Sara.

Looking at himself in the mirror, Leonard could admit that he looked good in the form fitting shirt. While he may not show it off, he did have a good physique, if he did say so himself.

Finally he pulled on the black suit jacket and couldn't resist smirking. Maybe Kendra had been right in insisting that he dress for this dinner with Sara. Not that he'd tell her that.

Realizing that he hadn't said what time dinner would be, Leonard stopped by Sara's room to see if she was ready now. Her door was closed, but when he knocked she called out, "Come in."

Sara was in her bathroom, just finishing applying her lipstick.

Her face lit up upon seeing Leonard standing in her room. "Hey!" she said in greeting. She boldly ran her eyes over him, unconsciously licking her newly painted lips. "Don't you clean up nice?"

"You look beautiful," Leonard said sincerely, his eyes raking over her.

"Thank you," Sara said. "Is it time?"

Chapter Two: Preparations

"You do realize that I can make the entire meal and not just the ingredients," Gideon said as Leonard removed a third type of cheese from the food replicator in the galley.

"Yes, I do," Leonard said, "but that would defeat the purpose of me cooking dinner. We have an oven; I may as well make use of it."

"As you wish," Gideon responded, sounding almost disappointed.

"Tell ya what," Leonard said, leaning back against the counter and looking towards the ceiling, "I'll make the main course, but you can make a mixed salad, enough for two people."

"And for dessert?" Gideon prompted.

Leonard smirked. "Go ahead and make Sara's favorite."

"Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream it is," Gideon announced.

"Oh, and Gideon," Leonard added. "Don't tell Sara what we're making."

"She will not hear it from me," Gideon said.

Collecting the ingredients, Leonard set about putting together one of the few dishes he was confident making.

After the team split up, Sara went to her quarters with a six pack of beer. It felt appropriate, given Mick's betrayal of the team and seeing Leonard alive. (She couldn't even think about that right now.)

But was it really a betrayal?

Mick and Ray were right. They hadn't trusted him. Not like they had before Leonard died. If they ever really had.

Sara knew the team put Mick down and she'd done nothing to stop it. Neither had Rip.

She could admit to herself that she was guilty of doing it, too, since becoming captain.

She'd told herself that she had distanced herself from the tentative friendship she'd had with Mick when Leonard was alive because she was Captain now. She needed to keep her distance from all of her teammates if she was to lead them with a clear head.

She couldn't let herself get attached. Not again.

Chapter One: Observations & Revelations

Leonard Snart considered himself to be an observant man, especially in new situations.

Being on board the Waverider with a group of strangers twenty-four hours a day wasn't exactly a new situation - he'd been in and out of enough jails and prisons in his life that being enclosed with strangers wasn't entirely new - but the general lack of hostility with these strangers was unusual. So he observed them.

One of the things that he'd observed was that Sara Lance liked to train. A lot. She'd been some kind of assassin, apparently, which intrigued him all the more. One didn't generally associate gorgeous blondes with lethal assassination. Yet, that was exactly what Sara was.

Not that he could blame her for spending so much time training. There wasn't a whole lot else to do on this ship.

Sometimes Leonard would offer to spar with Sara, to avoid his own boredom. She always readily agreed, despite the fact that she held back when sparring with him. Leonard tried not to be insulted when he realized what she was doing, but at the same time, he was grateful not to be on the receiving end of her full strength. He knew that she could kill him with little effort; which turned him on much more than it should.

Amongst his observations of Sara, he noticed that when she was training she often forgot to eat.

It wasn't right, these thoughts and feelings he was having. On so many different levels.

It was far too soon after Miranda and Jonas's murders for him to be developing...feelings...for someone else. Never mind the fact that the new object of his affections was his ship's AI.

Time Masters weren't supposed to have feelings for anyone. Was he defective for having fallen first for Miranda and then Jonah, and now for Gideon? Or did his ability and desire to love make him better than his former bosses?

He had loved Miranda deeply. He had been willing to give up his lifelong dream of being a Time Master for her; if only she hadn't beaten him to it.

If only Miranda had known that he would become much closer to someone else during the time that he was away from her.

Gideon was his constant companion. Other people may have joined him on board the ship, but Gideon was his constant.

Not that it was all bad.

After all, he'd still had Gideon with him. His one true friend since he became a Time Master and was given the Waverider.

Not only did he have Gideon with him, but she was there in human form. It had felt completely natural that she would be there as a person and not just a disembodied voice. They knew each other so well, that it had often been hard to remember that she did not have a physical human body.

Only in his mind, she did.

In his mind, Gideon was a beautiful woman with long dark hair. While she had a resemblance to Miranda, she was uniquely her own.

She was his own.

The battle raged throughout the dockyard. Firestorm and Atom were firing on goons from the sky while Leonard, Mick, and Rip attacked with guns and Sara, Amaya, and Nate fought with hand-to-hand combat.

"Where's Darhk?" Sara shouted after having knocked out her latest opponent. She looked around to see Leonard shooting ice at a cluster of men and Mick wasn't far away lighting up some other men with fire. But neither was fighting Darhk. "I don't see him."

"The speedster got him away as soon as the gunfire started," Ray reported over the din of fight.

Sara took her rage out on having lost out on the chance to kill Darhk, again, on the first goon foolish enough to come at her.

She was so consumed by her own fight that she didn't hear the warning signs until the explosion happened.

"Mick," Leonard's voice cried out, finishing off his opponents.

Sara's head jerked up as one of her lovers cried the other's name with an anguished voice. She dropped her opponent and followed Leonard to where she could now see Mick lying on the ground.

"No!" she cried, running towards the fire that was creeping closer to her lovers. "Is he...?" She couldn't say it.

"Alive," Leonard quickly assured her, his voice thick with emotion - that he would later claim was from the smoke. "Just unconscious."

Author's Note: Today is my one year anniversary of writing Captain Canary fanfiction and this is my 65th story for Legends of Tomorrow!

Sara Lance was a sophomore at Central City University, taking four classes for the semester and working as a delivery girl for the Big Belly Burger just off campus to help pay her tuition, as well as have some spending money.

Most of her deliveries were to fellow students who lived both on and off campus, but there were some regulars that were out in the real world, as she liked to call it.

One of her favorite stops was the Snart apartments. Yes, that's apartments, plural.

The first time she made a delivery to an address and Leonard Snart opened the door with a look of surprise on his face, she'd just assumed that he'd moved. She'd even joked with him that it was nice of him to order from the same location after moving. He'd muttered something about sticking with a good thing and closed the door as quickly as possible.

Then, a few weeks later, she'd made a delivery to the former Snart residence, thinking this must be the new tenants, only there he was again.

"Hey, I thought you'd moved," Sara said upon seeing Leonard's startled face.

"You?" Leonard exclaimed upon opening the door for Sara. "What are you doing here?"

Sara held up a bag of food in one hand and a tray of drinks in the other. "Delivery?"

"Of course," Leonard said, reaching for his wallet, muttering to himself, "Why is it always you?"

"You're just lucky," Sara commented. "So what's the deal with multiple apartments?"

"The other one's my sister's place," Leonard smoothly said.

Sara's brow scrunched in confusion. "When I asked if you'd moved there, you said yes."

"You'd just caught me off guard," Leonard insisted, coldly. "I meant that my sister had just moved there."

"Yeah, sure, whatever," Sara said. She handed him the bag of food and took her money, then handed him the drinks. She counted the cash as she walked away, noticing the tip was almost as much as the food. She thought about giving some of it back, but he was kind of a douche just now, so she shrugged and headed back to her car to make the rest of her deliveries.

After it was agreed that Amaya and Nate would stay on the Waverider for the foreseeable future, Sara gathered the team together in Rip's study.

Once everyone was settled, Sara turned to the new team members. "Okay, now that you're going to be staying for a while, there's something very important we need to discuss."

"Is this where we get the rules of the ship?" Nate asked, a joking tone to his voice.

"Not exactly," Sara said. "We need to know what books you want to recommend for the book club."

"Excuse me?" Amaya exclaimed. "Did you say 'book club'?"

"A book club is a group of people who get together once a month after having all read the same book to discuss it," Ray helpfully supplied.

"I know what a book club is," Amaya said. "I was surprised that you all participated in one. Together."

"You're plotting something," Mick said, taking a sip from his beer bottle as he entered Leonard's room and sat on the desk chair.

Leonard, who was lying on his bed, turned his head to look at Mick. Ever since he'd been rescued from the time stream, they had been back on good terms. In a rare show of emotion, Mick had hugged Leonard upon his rescue, and then soundly punched him. After an admonishment to never sacrifice himself again, they were back to normal. Or as normal as they had ever been.

"What makes you say that?" Leonard asked, not denying that he was planning something.

Mick simply gave him a look. "You find something worth stealing on the next mission?" he pressed.

"It's not a job that I'm planning," Leonard finally admitted, sitting up. He shifted uncomfortably before sharing, "I'm working out how to get Sara away for Valentine's Day."

Mick Rory had about as much in common with Rex Tyler as two things that were polar opposites could have. They might fight for similar things, but for very different reasons.

Rex had been all about the cause. He'd been a great leader and believed in the JSA with all his heart. He'd been a good man through and through. And that goodness had gotten him killed.

Maybe that was why Amaya was so drawn to Mick. He claimed that he was, first and foremost, a criminal. He spoke his mind and wasn't afraid of having his suggestions rebuffed (which they usually were), and he was almost always one of the first to jump into a fight. The fact that this was because he simply enjoyed fighting didn't matter when the fight was for a good cause.

Footsteps pounded behind Leonard Snart as he ran down the dark, barely shoveled sidewalks until he came to an alley. He ducked down it, collapsing against the wall to catch his breath. Moments later his partner, Erik, entered the alley and collapsed against the opposite wall, police sirens echoing in the distance.

"I can't believe we got away," Erik said, grinning.

"Never doubted it," Leonard drawled, straightening up and listening as the sirens drew farther away from them. He nodded in satisfaction. "Hand it over."

"Here's the thing," Erik said, slowly. "I've decided to keep it for myself."

Leonard's hand went to grab his gun, but it wasn't there. His shock must have registered on his face as Erik lifted two guns and pointed them at Leonard.

"This was my heist," Leonard snarled, starting to take a step forward, but halted by the sound of both guns being cocked.

"And now it's my loot," Erik said, smirking. He began to back out of the alley.

"You'll pay for this," Leonard growled, following him with his eyes.

"What are you going to do, call the cops on me?" Erik asked, laughing.

"Nobody double crosses me and lives to tell the tale," Leonard growled.

"Too bad you won't be alive to hear me tell it," Erik said and pulled the triggers on both guns.

The first bullet struck Leonard in his left calf as he turned to dive out of the way and the second one struck him in the right shoulder. He fell onto his back, striking his head against the pavement, and crying out as the pain seared through him.

The last thing he heard before blacking out was the sound of Erik running away.
