Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is how a bastard (or any less callous descriptors) like his father was raised by his Grandmother. That naturally makes me think of "sins of the father" and that Giles's grandmother was not able to modify the coldness of her own son, but would do her utmost to make Rupert's life more bearable.
