While they had been drifting in the time stream for the past several days, Rip had been holed up in his study watching a holographic message of his family on repeat, leaving the others to their own devices.

The team was starting to get restless with nothing proactive to do. Those who could fight sparred together. Ray tinkered with his suit, and the Rogues disassembled and reassembled their guns. Jax and Stein studied the ship. Sara and Leonard also spent much of that time exploring their new relationship.

One night, Sara grabbed a bottle of whiskey from Rip's study and rounded everyone up in the galley.

"Okay, everyone, take a seat at the table," she instructed as she set down seven shot glasses. "We're gonna get to know each other better."

Sara strode up to the open door of Leonard's bunk, making sure to keep one hand, and what was in it, behind the wall and the other tucked behind her back as she leaned against the doorjamb.

"I heard you took on my role in Salvation," she said by way of greeting.

Leonard looked up from the game of solitaire spread over his bed and smirked. "Someone had to play sharpshooter while you and Kendra were off on your little adventure."

"I didn't know you were such a good shot," Sara admitted.

"Lucky for Raymond that I am," Leonard drawled. He noticed the way Sara was carefully holding herself as she purposely stayed outside of his room. She'd long had an open invitation to his inner sanctum. "What are you up to?"

Sara grinned. "Wouldn't you like to know," she teased.

"I would," Leonard drawled; standing and slowly crossing to her. "That's why I asked."

Sara rolled her eyes and showed him what she was hiding.

"Care to see who's the better shot?" she asked, holding up a pair of laser rifles in one hand and goggles in the other.

The amusement park was closed for the night, but that didn't stop Leonard, Mick and Sara from entering. In fact, it was their mission to enter after hours.

Gideon had picked up on some future tech in one of the displays that might be able to stabilize the ship and Rip had dispatched the resident thieves and assassin to acquire it.

Sara shuddered as they walked through the deserted park.

"Don't tell me you're scared," Leonard teased, walking beside her.

Sara rubbed her hands along her crossed arms. "Not scared. These places creep me out enough when they're open; this is just plain freaky."

Mick swung an arm around Sara's shoulders. "Don't worry; we'll protect you from the big, scary, non-existent freaks."

Sara elbowed him in the side good-naturedly. "My hero," she said, laughing.

"You know it," Mick agreed, placing a kiss on the top of her head.

"What did we say about PDA?" Leonard asked.

"Only if we're all in on it," Sara said, grabbing Leonard's arm and pulling him close so she could kiss his cheek.

He hummed his appreciation of the kiss, and then said, "Yes. Only I thought I'd said… 'Don't'."

Sara stormed outside, the door reverberating from the force of her slamming it open.

They were back in Central City, present time, for a couple of days of R&R. Sara's mom was out of town and there wasn't time to go to Star City, so Sara was spending the down time with Leonard and Mick. Tonight they were having dinner with Leonard's sister, Lisa, at a popular new restaurant Lisa insisted on going to.

They'd all enjoyed a few drinks throughout dinner, but not to the extreme. Sara and Lisa were getting along like they'd known each other for years and Mick and Leonard were wondering if they should be worried. The night had been going great until Lisa started teasing Leonard about his obvious attraction to Sara and things quickly spiraled out of control.

"Sara, wait," Leonard called, rushing to catch up to her and nearly tripping in the process. Something wasn't right. "Why're ya runnin' 'way?"

Sara stopped abruptly and spun around, stalking back towards Leonard. "You just yelled, 'SO WHAT IF I LIKE YOU WHAT'RE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?' at the top of your lungs in a very crowded restaurant. What the hell, Snart? I know you're not drunk. Have you been drugged?"

Leonard frowned. Sara didn't call him Snart unless she was really angry. He didn't like it when she was angry at him. He frowned harder as her question caught up with him. "Drugged? Dunno. I don' feel right, tha's for sure," he slurred. Slurring was bad, right?

Sara sighed as she watched him weave on his feet. She took a closer look at his face and noticed that his pupils were blown. Whatever was going on, she didn't think he'd done it intentionally. She wished she knew what exactly had happened, though.

"I don't know about you guys, but I could really use a drink," Mick said after they left their younger selves in the care of Rip's foster mother, having defeated The Pilgrim.

"You sure you want to drink with me," Sara teased, smiling smugly. "Wouldn't want you to pass out again."

"You got lucky that time," Mick grunted. "I want a rematch."

"You're on," Sara said, knowing she could drink him under the table anytime, anywhere.

"You in, Partner?" Mick asked.

"Wouldn't miss it," Leonard drawled. "Besides, I'm the one with the good booze."

"You've got more of the Russian vodka?" Sara asked, hopefully.

Leonard's smirk said it all. "You didn't really think that I'd shared it all, did you?"

"Not really," Sara admitted. "Didn't figure you for the kind of crook to give away your entire take."

"Smart woman," Mick said.

They were in Seattle in 1997 following up on a lead on Savage. Ray, Kendra, Rip, and Stein were off meeting with their potential contact, leaving the rest of the team to their own devices for the evening.

Having been cooped up on the ship for a while, Leonard invited Mick to go for a walk through the sickeningly domestic neighborhood they were parked near. He still didn't really trust Mick, not after he'd threatened to kill Lisa over and over again, but Sara had been harping at him about making peace, so he extended the olive branch in the only way he knew how. Mick jumped at the opportunity to get off the ship, and hopefully steal something good.

It had been a good six weeks, relatively speaking, since Sara and Leonard shared their first kiss after a rough mission. While they had kept their new relationship status between themselves, they were a little surprised that no one on the ship had figured it out yet.

After all, there were a couple of geniuses on board. Granted, they weren't always so good at recognizing social cues, but it seemed strange that no one had noticed yet.

Sara was sure that Kendra had figured it out a few weeks ago when she'd found Sara straddling Leonard in the gym, fully clothed, but the other woman had just assumed they were sparring and went about her workout. Technically, that's what they'd been doing, aside from kissing once Sara'd gotten him on his back.

Leonard had assumed that Gideon had told Rip, as the ship had demonstrated her penchant for tattling early on. Yet Rip never said anything to them or gave them even a hint of a knowing look.

It suddenly became a game to them, pushing the limits of discretion to see who would notice first.

They still refused to be overt in their affection. They never did anything as blatant as kiss each other in public or allow a touch to last longer than a second when others were around.

It was little things. Holding hands under the kitchen table. Standing a little too close during mission prep. Making sure to always be on the same team in the field, or be the ones who remained on the ship.

A couple more weeks passed and still no one said anything.

They began to flirt more heavily in front of the team and touches began to linger.

A full two months after they'd first gotten together, the suspense was finally getting to them and they decided to just rip off the band aid and tell them.

At dinner that night, sitting next to each other, Sara took Leonard's hand and held it, resting them both on top of the table.

Everyone seemed to pause to stare at the joined hands.

Jax was the first to speak. "Does this mean we're finally talking about it?"

Sara and Leonard looked at each other in surprise.

"You knew?" Leonard drawled.

"Of course we knew," Ray said.

"You guys haven't exactly been subtle," Kendra added.

"Why didn't anyone say anything?" Sara demanded.

"We thought you were trying to be discreet," Rip said.

"We were," Leonard acknowledged.

"And you're all okay with this?" Sara asked.

"It's not our place to 'be okay' with your relationship," Martin said. "So long as you're happy together, that's what matters."

Sara smiled as she looked at Leonard and he squeezed her hand. "We are."

"Now that that matter is settled," Leonard drawled as he released Sara's hand and reached for the nearest serving dish on the table, "What's for dinner?"

Sara looked up from her book as the door to her room opened and Leonard walked in carrying a tray with a sandwich, an apple, and a bottle of water on it. He hadn't bothered knocking after the first time he'd visited her post-injury.

"You didn't have to bring me lunch," Sara chided, setting her book aside.

"It's not like you were coming to get it yourself," Leonard said, setting the tray on her lap and then sitting at the other end of the bed, leaning against the wall with his legs stretched out before him.

It had been three days since Sara had been stabbed in the side while out on a mission. Gideon had been damaged in the fight so Kendra had had to stitch her up. Luckily nothing major had been nicked, but once Gideon was back online and had checked her over, she was still relegated to bed rest.

Leonard had barely left her side since it happened. He'd made himself her dedicated nursemaid - caretaker, he'd corrected her after the first time she'd called him that - immediately, and no one objected. Sara thought that was mostly out of fear.

They had developed a kind of shorthand around each other over the past few months. Words that started out as insults became terms of endearment.

"Be careful, Crook."

"Always am, Assassin."

Neither Sara nor Leonard were big on words. They were people of action who enjoyed their silences.

Words could lie; they could deceive. They could betray you. So it was better not to use them.

Until not using them was a betrayal in itself.

It happened without their knowledge or their consent.

Leonard came into the mission with plans for epic thievery with Mick. If they happened to save the world while making a profit, so be it. He wasn't looking to make friends. He didn't do friendship, let alone any other kind of 'ship, and he was perfectly content that way.

Sara was looking for redemption. She needed to find a way to calm and direct the monster that came back from the Pit with her. So much of her life had depended on someone else - her parents, Ivo, Ollie, Nyssa - now she needed to learn how to trust herself. Without leaning on anyone else.

They hadn't planned on finding someone to complement their darkness. Least of all in each other.

Sure, they claimed that they didn't like each other. They both had images they needed to protect. The cold-hearted crook. The aloof assassin. It's who they were. Or at least who they pretended to be.

Except that they kept slipping up and demonstrating that their words were hollow.

Chapter 1

Sara had been in college, bartending at Oblivion, when she first met him. Leonard Snart.

She'd been chatting with one of her regulars, Eddie Thawne, when she spotted him at the other end of the bar talking with the other bartender, Lisa. He was attractive, in an unassuming way. His short cropped hair sharpened to a widow's peak that drew your gaze to his startlingly beautiful eyes. Even from a distance, Sara could see a glitter of mischief in them, and she was intrigued.

He was playing with the end of Lisa's hair, but she looked more pissed than pleased, so Sara excused herself to intervene.

"Stop it, Lenny, I'm working," Lisa said, batting the man's hand away.

"C'mon, Sis, it's one job," the man, Lenny, cajoled.

"The lady's already got a job," Sara said, stepping up to Lisa. She looked at the brunette. "Do you need me to kick his ass out of here?"

2) captain canary + angry kiss

It was supposed to be an easy mission - recon only - so Sara was wearing black clothes to blend into the night, not her Kevlar-lined White Canary outfit.

There weren't supposed to be so many guards on the grounds.

The guards weren't supposed to have seen them.

But they had.

It had all happened so quickly. Leonard wasn't sure how the guards had been tipped off. He and Sara were both being careful, not even engaging in their usual flirtatious banter. They'd been taking the job seriously, especially once they saw just how many guards were on hand.

They had been stealthily working their way along the perimeter wall when there had been a gunshot. No verbal warning, no light to highlight the fact that they'd been spotted. Just the sound of a gun and Sara's body jerking from the impact.

It was lunchtime on the Waverider. Not that there were scheduled meal times, but everyone tended to gather in the galley around the same time, three times a day. Today it was just Jax, Ray, Sara, and Leonard dining together.

"The Salmon Ladder, hands down," Sara said.
