I got home from Sicily last night. It was a fantastic trip. It's a gorgeous country with such a rich (and violent) history. I hadn't realized that so many Greek myths were tied to Sicily. It was really cool seeing sites that related to stories I was familiar with. (A lot of Homer's Odyssey took place around Sicily.)

I'll post my photos and travelogue later, but I'll tell you one story now: Read more... )

I'm slowly catching up on my TV shows and LJ. Feel free to leave me a link if you want to make sure I don't miss something.

It's been a busy week offline.

Last night I saw Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre with [livejournal.com profile] singinglark, her daughter, and my co-worker CW. It was fantastic. Very powerful pieces.

And of course I was in FL visiting my family. I had a lovely time staying with my cousins Saturday and Sunday. Well, the driver from the Peruvian restaurant we ordered dinner from couldn't find the house, ignoring the directions my cousin's wife texted him. We got our food 2 hours after we ordered it, and it wasn't even that good. She also introduced me to the show Younger. It was pretty funny. Watch the S1 trailer; the show is in it's second season, I think.

On Sunday we went to Butterfly World. One landed on my aunt. The baby in the photo is my baby cousin. See Photos. )

My mom picked me up on Monday and we went to visit her parents' graves. Then we went to see my step-grandma. She was tired, so we only stayed an hour, but it was good to visit with her. She says she's ready, even though she's not sick, she's 95. Her body doesn't work the way she wants it too. It's a bit of a curse having an intact mind and a body that doesn't let you engage it.

Work wasn't too crazy when I got back. It had been pretty slow while I was gone so it only took me one day to catch up.

Now I need to spend my weekend working on the last chapter of my LoT 5 Times fic and also watching the new season of Daredevil.

ETA: Also, I might need this Deadpool shirt.

Bet most of you didn't even know I was gone. I took a quick trip to visit my family over the weekend. The goal for the weekend was to go through my stuff that's in my mom's basement. My brother and his girlfriend came in for the weekend too. Read more... )

I must rant a bit here. They had a late start to their day, so rather than find some way to pass the time until our meeting time, they decided to start going through the the British Museum without me. Guess what part they started with. Yep, the Greek and Egyptian exhibits - the ones the museum is famous for. When I got there, they expected me to do the rest of the museum with them, then go back to the main part if there was time. o_O Excuse me? After going through one room with them, I told them that I was going to go off on my own, to see the part of the museum I had come there to see and I'd meet up with them later. I could not believe they had done that! I had time before we were meeting up too, but I found other ways to amuse myself because I knew I was going to be going through the museum with them. It never would have occurred to me to start without them. It's just so rude. Grr. That's what I did. I took a few hours to go through those exhibits and then called [livejournal.com profile] kallie_kat at her hotel when I finished to see if I could come over, explaining why I wasn't with the others. They beat me back to the hotel, and we all went out to dinner together near the Tower Bridge.

I cannot even begin to say how much I enjoyed going to Rome with [livejournal.com profile] kallie_kat, her mom (Donna), [livejournal.com profile] elenorlaura, and Lisa Kelley. I found myself in awe every day of the immense history and beauty that is so deeply a part of this city.

I'm Home!

I'm back from Italy! I had such a fabulous time that it was hard to come home. Yet, at the same time, we were all ready to go home. I'll work on a summary of my trip, but I want to make it nice, with links and stuff, so it may take a while to get together today. Pictures may take longer to get uploaded.

I'm off to go through everyone's LJs to see what you've been up to while I was gone. If you posted fic, it'll take me a while to get caught up reading it, but I'll get to it eventually.

Call me crazy. I've been home from the UK for a week and I've just booked another overseas trip. I was invited by Kat (KallieRose) to go to Rome with her. How could I refuse? Especially when I found out Lisa Kelley is going too.

I knew Kat was planning on taking her mom to Europe. She's been planning it for months. Last week she emailed me to say she'd booked the tickets for the end of March-first week of April. Her best friend was going too and bringing another friend. When I found out Lisa was going, without her husband, I couldn't resist saying, "I wish I could go too." Her response was, "If you can afford it, wanna come?" How could I say 'No'?

So today we chatted and got all excited. I did some searches for flights and found roundtrip tickets for $488! Even better is that I'm on the same flights to and from Rome with Kat and her mom. I was able to pick a seat next to Lisa from NY to Rome and next to Kat from Rome to Toronto. (Different airlines in each direction.)

I am so bouncy now it's ridiculous. I've never been to Italy before. And I get to travel with two very good friends. I've never traveled with friends before. It's going to be so much fun. I can't wait.

Only 9 hours until I'll be on a plane on my way to London, via Detroit. Everything is all packed. I've got 5 tops & 2 pairs of pants plus what I'll be wearing, plus an extra pair of shoes, a rain jacket and umbrella, plus my black denim jacket. I've got my laptop, CDs, 2 new books and a notebook. My new camera, my passport and my e-tickets are in my purse already. (Gotta love on-line check-in.)

All I have to do is make it 2pm so I can leave work, go home, change clothes, put a lock on my suitcase since I'm checking it, and call a taxi.

This day can not go fast enough. London & Scotland here I come!

I'll see you all at the end of the month! [livejournal.com profile] rileysaplank and [livejournal.com profile] mara_sho I'll see you sooner. *wink*

As my trip to Great Britain nears (I leave in 11 days), my thoughts turn to how to spend my free day in London. I got my trip packet in the mail last weekend with the itinerary and brochures of the hotels and print-outs of what we'll be doing. I'd forgotten that we'll have all of October 22nd (Saturday) free in London. My step-dad has some things he'd like to do, and I'll probably tag along with him and my mom.

But being me, my thoughts naturally turned to the theatre. (My mom said we could go at night, but she doesn't want to waste the day indoors. Fine with me so long as I go.)

So here's my question, is there anything playing that I shouldn't miss? Or something else you think I should check out? Want to meet me in person? This is what we'll be doing while in London/Scotland.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. While I'm more than capable of doing an online search to see what's playing, a recommendation or vehemant bashing could sway me one way or the other.

Thanks!
Elisabeth

It looks like I'm going to get to see Serenity opening weekend! I emailed one of my movie buddies earlier this week and she said she'd be happy to go with me that weekend. *squee* We'll see it Saturday, October 1st, with dinner first. (I'm guessing she'll get a group together since my birthday is on the 3rd.)

[livejournal.com profile] mara_sho & [livejournal.com profile] rileysaplank - if we're able, maybe we can all see it again when I'm in Scotland later that month. I'm guesing you'll both be up for seeing it more than once, and I'd love to see it with actual fans, which my local friends I know are going more because I want to see it than because they're familiar with the story.

I'm also getting excited for my trip to Seattle next weekend. I know I haven't talked about it much, but there's been other trips and stuff going on. I'm going to stay with Kat (aka KallieRose) for four days, September 15-18, but I'm taking the 19th off to sleep after my red-eye flight. I'm hoping that I'll be able to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] wickedfox while I'm there too. I've never been to Seattle before, so I'm really looking forward to it. I also have a cousin who lives there who I have tentative plans to see.

For those of you who don't already know, this broadcast is coming to your from sunny Phoenix, Arizona. I'm here visiting the fabulous Lisa Kelley (writer of The Vampire, The Witch and the Curse; as well as The Art of the Possible). She completely understood my need to check my email and LJ (even though she doesn't have one herself, yet - I'm working on her).

And the meme that is currently circulating, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] claudia6913 and [livejournal.com profile] emeraldswan among others:

1) Reply to this post if you want/need me to tell you how cool you are!
2) Watch my journal over the next few days for a post just about you and why I think you rock.
3) Post these instructions in your journal and give your friends a much needed dose of love and adoration!

Since I am out of town, it may be a little while before I respond, but I will get to this, eventually.
